Svante, a global leader in carbon capture and removal, adopts KEY ESG for improved carbon reporting

Headquartered in Greater Vancouver, Canada, Svante currently has large-scale pilot plants and two demonstration units on customer sites in Canada and abroad.

The challenge

Sustainability reporting is becoming important to all stakeholders, and the Svante senior management team aims to become a global leader in this area.

Rocco Meraglia, Svante’s VP of HSEC & Sustainability, recognised the company needed to provide its stakeholders with visibility into thecompany’s sustainability efforts and ready the business for global expansion. To this end, Rocco instigated the use of KEY ESG’s platform to put a structure in place for Svante’s sustainability reporting.

Rocco described Svante’s progress with KEY ESG:

“KEY ESG has made it simple to understand ESG, especially carbon accounting for Scope 1, 2,and 3 reporting. Capturing all the required data for our sustainability reporting was a daunting task at first, but KEY ESG has helped us put a strong process in place and deliver on our goal.”

The solution

Using KEY ESG’s platform as a collaborative dashboard to collect data from across the business enabled Svante to move away from outdated Excel sheets. The team at Svante embraced the change and was able to learn to tackle their Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions leveraging internal resources only.

Svante delivered on its goal to develop internal sustainability reporting as a core competency. The company gathered 100% of the data required for this process internally, leveraging KEY ESG’s data validation and error-checking system. Svante has now put ambitious plans in place for their 2023 report, which Rocco says is going to help them on their path to becoming a leader in sustainability reporting.

Next steps

Rocco has big ambitions for Svante’s ESG reporting - to move beyond reporting and to distilling actionable insights from the data he and his team gather from all areas of the business. He says that Svante wants to explore and understand the lifecycle of each component of their products so they can identify areas for sustainability improvement.
